Noise blanker 2

This is an on air test of the VK3AQZ noise blanker in a homebrew rig. The noise blanker is very good at handling ignition and electric fence noise. In this video, the noise blanker was tested on various types of noise that occurred on a noisy evening, on the lower HF bands. This blanker is based on a traditional design by Ulrich Rhode, placed between the RX mixer and crystal filter at 9MHz.  This design was found in many HF rigs prior to the introduction of SDR radios. It will not outperform a good software noise reduction system but it does offer some degree of noise reduction with careful adjustment.
