Testing RF Plate Chokes

RF chokes used in valve linears which feed the high voltage to the anode plates may have self resonant frequencies inside the amateur bands. Self resonance inside an amatuer band can cause large RF currents and voltages and damage the choke and other components. When building or installing a new choke it should be tested for self resonance to ensure they don’t occur within an amateur band. This video demonstrates the test procedure.
